"You Are" is one of the older songs album. I co-wrote in 2003 with my good friend and mentor Adam Ayers who has been a frequent collaborator over the the last 20 years. He provided lyrics for verses and the bridge of while I wrote the chorus and melody.

This song first appeared on the rare Convoy EP (2005) In the original version, the song was presented as an alt-country rock song and I played it that way for years.

While I still like the old version, both Adam and I agreed the old arrangement wasn't quite grand enough for such epic lyrics.

I set out to rectify that with this newer version but - phew! - it was quite a challenge. This was probably the hardest song to chase down on LTS. I tried lots of different ideas before eventually finding what I was looking for when I accidentally ran the bass through a distortion effect.

I enlisted the help of my good friend and former bandmate Pete Dawson who contributed some tasty lead guitar.

Lastly, my lovely wife Julie added some gorgeous piano and harmonies and - viola! - 50 mix attempts later and the track was done.
